Berlin – day 3

// November 13th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Europe 2010

Since we got a lot out of our Paris hop-on, hop-off bus tour, we thought we’d do the same again in Berlin. Being that Berlin is such an enormous metropolis, you can’t exactly just walk around it and hope to see everything.

Paris

// November 13th, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

Hello everyone, this is Deb. No I haven’t done a post since Romania but I feel Glen is much better at these blog posts :-) He is making me do this one! hehehe.

So we made our way to Paris and I had 2 requests as to what I would like to do. One being to go to Paris Disneyland and the other to Moulin Rouge. Both requests were met so I was happy with that.

The Netherlands – aka low lands

// November 13th, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

We travelled to Rotterdam from Paris on a very enjoyable train journey using Thalys. Every train journey so far is easy, on-time, quick and actually quite relaxing. It’s not necessarily cheap but nor is flying when the associated costs are taken into account… it is what it is!

Recycling the German Way

// November 13th, 2010 // 4 Comments » // Europe 2010

At a local supermarket here in Mexikoplatz, Berlin, I watched a woman use a very odd, but very high-tech recycling machine… a self-use one!

A picture of it below…

Berlin – days 1 & 2

// November 12th, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

After our flight from Dusseldorf to Berlin, we caught a train into the centre of Berlin and then out again to our hotel. We didn’t realise at the time, but our hotel is not at all close to the main area of Berlin, if you consider say the central station to be the centre. Instead, we’re rocking the suburbs about 30mins by train.

Cheap airlines are a false economy

// November 10th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Europe 2010

You learn a lot whilst traveling, things you almost have to do and experience before you understand not to do that again. Some things take a couple of experiences to ram it home.

Another quick update

// November 10th, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

This whole traveling thing is pretty full-on! Haven’t had much of a chance to write a proper blog post – sorry everyone!

We left The Netherlands yesterday after 2 nights in Rotterdam and 2 in Amsterdam. Last night was here in Dusseldorf as we head to Berlin by plane later today. Got a few nights planned there so will make the effort to post photos / blog so we don’t forget what we’ve done.

To Paris With Love

// November 6th, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

Just a quick update to say Paris was spectacular; caught up with some friends we hadn’t expected to and really enjoyed every minute of it.

Blog post coming soon.

Monaco – think the exact opposite of Romania

// November 2nd, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

We weren’t sure about Monaco – even though it’s a measly 3.80€ train trip from Nice, we knew that was going to be the last of the inexpensive options for the overnight stay we had planned on having.

“It’s only money” we told ourselves along with, “we can always earn more” followed by “how often are we going to be in perhaps the wealthiest place in the world?”. So with that, the credit card was truly awakened!

It’s nice to be in Nice

// October 31st, 2010 // No Comments » // Europe 2010

After yet another few hours of scenic train travel and a very entertaining conversation with a Swedish family, we caught our first glimpse of the South of France.

First was Monte-Carlo, an independent state 6 times the size of the Vatican – a tax haven for the filthy rich. Even their train station echoes that this isn’t any ordinary place.
